1. Why are BRAX speakers no longer offered with passive crossovers?
In the absolute high-end segment, the demand for passive crossovers has declined significantly in recent years - and not without reason. If you want to achieve the absolute tonal optimum, you cannot really avoid using a fully active system of control for the speakers. Anyone who still prefers a passive switch, we are happy to provide the appropriate circuit diagrams for you to build your own unit.
The BRAX FAQ
2. Why do BRAX amplifiers not have an integrated crossover or other filters?
Sound enthusiasts today are betting on the power of DSP technology with its almost limitless and highly accurate set-up options. External signal processors eliminate the need for conventionally designed integrated filters, especially for amplifiers in the absolute premium segment. For this reason, BRAX amplifiers are designed and built with the shortest possible signal path. This design ensures that every possible component which could affect the desired result, which is an unadulterated sound reproduction, is removed.
3. Can I use the ML10 SUB / ML10 subwoofer in bass reflex cabinets?
The designed specifications of the ML10 SUB / ML10 are optimized for installation in closed housings. In comparison to bass reflex constructions, these offer significantly better impulse behaviour, even if this is at the expense of efficiency. BRAX products prioritise maximum sound quality above all else, and therefore we only recommend the use of closed systems to ensure the very best results.4. What are the special connections for the Power Stabilizer on the BRAX amplifiers?
A Power Stabilizer is always a useful accessory, but its effect is increased when it is plugged in without interruption. This is where its power delivery capability really comes into its own. In the case of the BRAX amplifiers, the "Power Stabilizer" terminals are routed behind the input suppression choke and are directly connected to the switching power supply and switching transistors to ensure maximum current flow when a large pulse is required.5. What housing volume is ideal for the ML3 midrange?
We recommend a minimum volume of 250 ml – however, the ML3 plays more freely in larger sealed enclosures, especially if a low lower crossover frequency of 250 Hz is desired. However, when the net volume exceeds a little more than 1 liter, there are no further acoustical gains to be achieved.6. Can I also use BRAX amplifiers in the home environment?
What is good in the vehicle can also be used to expand the audiophile horizon of the home entertainment environment. However, it should be noted that a BRAX amplifier has a large power requirement, for which a corresponding power supply must be used. Here, the combination of a powerful 12 V power supply (at least 60 A) and a parallel-connected car battery are required, the latter will cover short-term peak power demands.7. The ML6 woofer has two different variants – which is the right choice?
To put it bluntly, both versions are exceptional examples of what is technically and sonically possible in loudspeaker construction today. The ML6P plays with a nuance of midrange due to its lower compression effects, while the ML6D offers a bit more pressure in the upper kick bass range, thanks to the dust cap used in its construction. Ultimately it is a matter of scope, in a 3-way combination with an additional midrange, say the ML2 or ML3, the ML6D is the woofer of choice.8. The amplifier is in protection mode and the status LED is yellow.
Cause: The speaker cabling is faulty, shorted to each other or to the vehicle chassis.Resolution: Check the wiring for the speakers and ensure there are no loose strands making a contact to the opposite terminal.
Cause (MX2 / MX4 / MX4 PRO): The set speaker impedance does not match the impedance of the connected speakers.
Resolution: Check the speaker impedance setting.
9. The amplifier is in protection mode and the status LED flashes yellow.
Cause: The internal fuses are defective.Resolution: Replace the defective fuses with new, identical fuses. Please refer to the user manual or contact our support team for the correct fuse rating.
10. The amplifier is in protection mode and the status LED is red.
Cause: The amplifier is overheated.Resolution: Allow the Amplifier to cool down. Depending on the ambient temperature where the unit is installed, it may take some time for the amplifier to cool down sufficiently and to switch on again.
11. The output volume of the BRAX NOX4 DSP amplifier is too low during bridge operation.
Cause: Channel routing in the internal DSP is not set correctly.Resolution: It is imperative that the two-bridged channels are assigned identical channel routing while in bridged mode. This means that the same input channels are assigned to both output channels. Please also refer to the information in the detailed instructions for the DSP PC-Tool software. It should also be noted that the equalization, the high- and lowpass filters, the phase and the delay correction are also set identically. For simplified configuration, the DSP PC-Tool software offers a linking function to ensure identical values are set for each channel.
