SFX menu
The SFX menu can be accessed via the main navigation in the upper area of the GUI.
The range of functions of the individual effects can vary from device to device; the menu is basically divided into three areas:
6. The bypass function of the high pass and low pass filters
With the help of the “bypass” button, the effect of the high or low pass filter can be completely deactivated which makes an acoustic comparison “with and without a filter” quite easy.Important note: please be careful with the use of the bypass function in fully active systems in the tweeter or midrange channels. Without high pass filters, irreversible damage to the speakers may occur even at low listening volumes. On the other hand, switching off a low pass filter is not critical.
1. Difference between devices with VCP and without VCP
Without VCPFor devices that do not support VCP, there is an indication on the respective subpage to which output channel the effect is applied.
In this example, each of the “Augmented Bass Processing” effects are applied to output channel H.
Depending on the device type, there is the option of applying the sound effects on additional channels, e.g. if you like to use them in fully active configurations:
With VCP
There is a special feature with devices that support Virtual Channel Processing (or simply VCP). In order to be able to use the (S) FX with these devices, VCP must be activated first in the DCM menu.
As soon as VCP is active, the effects will be assigned as follows:
Augmented Bass Processing: Virtual Channel “Subwoofer1” und “Subwoofer2”
Center Processing: Virtual Channel “Center Full”
Front Processing: Virtual Channel “Front L Full” and “Front R Full”
2. Augmented Bass Processing
Augmented Bass Processing includes two selectable functions that can be used to influence the bass response.Dynamic Bass Enhancement
Dynamic Bass Enhancement enables a bass boost that varies with the signal level. This means that the bass level is boosted at low levels and attenuated accordingly at high levels.
Dynamic Bass Enhancement is a combination of a dynamically controlled high pass filter and a parametric filter, where the cut-off frequency or center frequency can be adjusted using the "frequency" slider (setting range 20 ... 60 Hz). In addition, the "Gain" slider is used to define the maximum bass boost which is added at low volume levels (setting range 0… + 9 dB).
SubXpander
The SubXpander is a sound effect that generates additional subharmonic tones with half the frequency and adds them to the music signal. Only the frequency range from 30 - 100 Hz is taken into account. Here is a small example: If there is a 40 Hz tone in the music signal, a 20 Hz tone will be added. With a 60 Hz tone this would be a 30 Hz tone accordingly.
The frequency spectrum of the generated subharmonics thus covers the range from 15 Hz - 50 Hz.
We would like to point out that the SubXpander should ideally only be used in combination with heavy-duty subwoofers, as this feature increases the electrical and mechanical load on the loudspeaker considerably.
3. Center Processing
RealCenter
In the vast majority of applications, only the sum of the right and left front channels is used to generate a signal for the center speaker. However, this means that the spatial stage image is restricted and the sound on the driver's side ultimately only takes place between the left front speakers and the center speaker. The same applies accordingly to the passenger side, where the stereo panorama is reduced to the area between the center speaker and the right front speakers.Audiotec Fischer's proprietary “RealCenter” is a much more complex approach in which the center loudspeaker only reproduces the monophonic elements of the music, i.e. only the information that is simultaneously available on the right and left front channels. Stereophonic information that is only contained in the left or right channel is not fed to the center speaker.
The advantage: The width of the spatial stage image, which is generated by the stereophonic components, remains completely unchanged with the RealCenter, since these are still only reproduced by the left and right front speakers.
Advice:
Without VCP:
For a proper operation of the algorithm it is mandatory that the “Front Left” and “Front Right” signals must be present on channels A and B, as well as a sum of “Front Left” and “Front Right” on the actual center channel.
With VCP:
For a proper operation of the algorithm it is mandatory that the “Front Left” and “Front Right” signals must be present on virtual channels “Front L Full” and “Front R Full”, as well as a sum of “Front Left” and “Front Right” on the virtual “Center Full”.
ClarityXpander
The ClarityXpander adds harmonics in the high frequency range to the music signal in order to increase the brilliance. The intensity of the effect can be adjusted to your personal listening taste using the slider. For the center channel, there is the option of having the intensity controlled automatically depending on the high frequency content of the music signal. This avoid an excessive effect with high-pitched music material, which would be acoustically fatiguing, especially with the center speaker.
4. Front Processing (only DSP PC-Tool 4)
StageXpander
The StageXpander expands the stage image for a wider stereo panorama. This can be particularly advantageous in small vehicles with a small distance between the right and left front speakers. The effect should only be used moderately – if the intensity is too high, this will lead to a diffuse sound reproduction increases and the precise localization of voices and instruments in the music may suffer.

StageEQ
The StageEQ only affects the right and left front channels. This allows to adjust the tonality of monaural and stereophonic components in the music separately.
While the Mid EQ only affects the components in the audio signal that are present on both channels at the same time, the Side EQ affects the components that are present on either the left or the right channel. The Mid EQ in particular can be used to optimize voice reproduction (which is typically included as a monophonic signal). If the voice seems "bloated", e.g. a moderate cut in the fundamental frequency range (200 - 800 Hz) can be useful.
